Studio Vulkan (ehem. Schweingruber Zulauf)
After several years of collaboration in a joint office, Rainer Zulauf and Lukas Schweingruber founded the Schweingruber Zulauf office in 2005, which was later renamed Studio Vulkan. The Zürich-based office works on projects in Switzerland and Europe, focusing on a conscious approach to change processes in an experimental and strategic way. Within the projects, the aim is to trace the locations with their specific dynamics and to question the creation of finished ideal images. Landscape architecture is an experimental field for the examination of the concept of nature and landscape.
From the Museumspark Kalkriese in Osnabrück (2000) and the Oerliker Park in Zürich (2002), to the rhino enclosure at Basel Zoo (2008), the team has worked on urban and landscape spaces on all scales. The firm also designed the surroundings of the Prime Tower in Zürich, the new Zürich University of the Arts in the former Toni Molkerei, and the ape enclosure of the Basel Zoo. In addition to Zellweger Park, Schweingruber Zulauf also designed the Stadtpark in Uster (2008) and was involved in the redesign of the Aabach riverbank along Zellweger Park.
